e·thos

noun– the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations. We are the spirit of the gospel message of a new reality breathing life into the Orange County area.
Years ago I had this dream of what a community could look like stripped away of the fog machines, lights, traditional sermon, and plastic smiles. I wanted, needed something more. I had this dream of a coffee shop gathering where people came together at a local place in which we helped support with our patronage. I imagined a space where we’d sit around tables. There would be art, music, group discussion, live questions and answers, interviews. It would be a very different way of doing community.
After being pushed out of a community I helped build because of various views the tradition felt didn’t fit, I was devastated and unsure if I’d ever be a part of community building again. I felt this way for weeks until a group of people came to my house on
a Saturday. They came for support but also ask a question.
“Tony, what’s next? If you decide to do something, we’ll join.”
And those words, those words broke my heart open and I felt life again. I felt loved and accepted. I felt community.

And so we schemed, planned, explored the possibilities of what a community could REALLY look like if given the chance. And while that was happening I met Danny, a local coffee shop owner who just happened to have a patio that was the perfect size, and, after a couple meetings chose to partner with us! We’ll buy coffee; you allow us the space. And this has been a dream come true.
We chose a name after much discussion, we wanted it to fit who we are and the direction we are heading as a community. The name came from the four pillars that we felt this movement should live by:
  1. We believe in radical acceptance. No matter who you are, where you’re from, what your past has been, there is room for you here around the table.
  2. We believe the Christ path brings life, repair, and restoration to the community and the individual and desire to share these truths with everyone we meet.
  3. We believe that truth continues evolving and shaping as culture grows in knowledge and wisdom. We are not static beings but dynamic ones on dynamic journeys toward wholeness.
  4. We believe that the gospel was meant to be lived out WITHIN community. We don’t do outreach— we support the community we are intimately connected with. When the community we live in thrives, so do we.

Ethos Church is a community of people from various backgrounds, worldviews, and beliefs that comes together for community and choose to live out the new reality Jesus shared with the world. We believe the message of a new kind of life of repair is what Jesus shared and can be lived and breathed as an individual and community.

Ever since stepping into this new journey I’ve felt more alive and more connected to the people around me than ever before. I’m living my true self and sharing it with others who are doing the same.

We are Ethos Church and we’d love to have you join us weekly at 102 Cafe  @  12908 Main St, Garden Grove, CA 92840 10:30 am.
